Virtual Run

In addition to our rescheduled Mississauga Marathon on September 18-20, 2020, we will also be hosting a virtual Mississauga Marathon in conjunction with Sportstats during the weeks of May 1-24, 2020.

We welcome everyone who has registered to join us and and run this May while adhering to the recommendations provided by the Peel Public Health.

ALL CURRENTLY REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS will be automatically entered into the Mississauga Marathon Virtual Race Weekend. We will be running draws and contests throughout the month of May for those who participate.

How does it work?

A virtual event is a chance for runners to achieve their running goals and stay active when we are not all able to congregate together. Runners can run or walk the event they registered for on their treadmill, around town, or anywhere that is safe to do so under provincial and municipal guidelines. Run your distance, then upload your time using the specific instructions sent to you and see where you stack up!

Who is eligible to run the virtual race?

Anyone who is registered for the 2020 Mississauga Marathon before April 27, 2020 is eligible for the virtual race. If you’ve opted to defer you registration to 2021, you may still participate in the virtual race.

Will the course be pre-set or can I make one up?

This is YOUR race! You can run on a treadmill or choose your own route for the virtual event—we suggest you adhere to Public Health Agencies’ guidelines and try to stay within your neighbourhood. You can create fun loops, set-up your own fuel/water station in your yard, and tell your neighbours so they can cheer you on from their porches! Please practice Physical Distancing and follow these virtual race tips!

We specifically ask that you do not use any of the Mississauga Marathon Race Weekend routes as they will not be closed or policed. please do not attempt a group run on race weekend—or at any time during the virtual race window.

Please obey local and provincial guidelines with regards to acceptable places to run and remember to social distance!

Do I have to choose to run the virtual race or the rescheduled race in the fall?

No. Anyone who wishes to run in the fall or defer their registration to 2021 is eligible to participate in the virtual race. The virtual race is simply a way we can all stay active and focused on our running goals while keeping our distance to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Will shirts or medals be given out?

There will be no medals or shirts handed out for the virtual event.

Will prizes be given out?

Since participants are responsible for uploading their own time to Sportstats, prizing will be awarded via draw format instead of distance winner prizing. We encourage participants to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay up-to-date on draws and contests.

Is the virtual event mandatory?

The virtual event is optional to participate in. You may also attempt your run/walk as many times as you wish during the period of May 1-24.

Can I qualify for the Boston Marathon in the 2020 Mississauga Marathon virtual marathon?

Since you’ll be creating your own course that will not be certified, you will not be able to qualify for the Boston Marathon. However, your run in the fall with us will be eligible to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

What are the next steps?

You will receive an email from Sportstats with more details about how to track and upload your results. Follow those instructions, have fun, and stay safe!
